Bit like the last post really.

My daughter paid tax April 2004 to August 2004 and as she was earning a good wage was in the higher tax bracket. However, in August she decamped to Australia and will be there until at least July 2005. I reckon she is due back the tax she paid at the 40% rate, as she left the Uk having earned less than £15,000 in the 2004/5 year but had paid tax as if she was on £40,000 a year.

BUT, she is told that when she leaves Oz in July 2005 they will give her the Oz tax back she has paid. Has anyone been in this position? Are the UK and OZ earnings separate or will the IR in the UK have somethig to say if she takes a refund on her Oz tax when she comes home, and then tried to get her 40% bit back in the UK from 2004/5? In a best case scenario she gets to keep both!

Yes , when I moved got all my tax back - no problems -BUT- In Aus the income is deemed as ALL INCOME - worldwide so that 15K is deemed as income and will therefore be taxed (If its banked offshore and accessesd via debit card then this gets around that problem . Not Legal by anymeans but is done by many. They will try and get anything here.)/
