Does anyone here provide these services?

I can already automatically send sms messages from my website but that was using an off the shelf system which I'm sure isn;t the most cost effective way to go.

I need customers to be able to text my website the the system to do a few little bits and then send out premium rate text messages to other people. I cna get the system to do the little bits - no problem its just the text in and out I need help with.

I would imagine this will be quite a high volume site, so billing would have to be on an invoice basis and not a "pre buy" basis.

The other question is, what is the law on sending premium rate messages? Do people have to agree to receive them first?

Any help on the matter always appreciated.

Cheers,

JC

This is exactly the business I'm in (see profile).

If you wish to make contact via PM then I shall be more than happy to talk it all through.

Hi JC,

We have a large SMS department here (were actually a licensed OFCOM carrier)- lots of the guys who work here are ex Vodafone and Orange so they know their beans.

Regards PRS SMS you need to comply with ICSTIS guidelines and yes the users do need to consent to receive the messages and also allow users a path to stop receiving the messages if they wish (if it's a subs based system)

It's all simple stuff, send me a mail if you need anymore help.

Cheers
Darren

Not sure what your line of business is, but if your in a service Industry be careful who you target your messages at.

I'm Involved in Estate Agency and in a recent customer satisfaction survey, we have found that a staggering 90% of our client base finds an unsolicited text message an irritation and would never respond to it. (9 out of 10 cats prefer whiskas!)

But to be honest the message we had been sending out was pants

Don't want to put a downer on the idea but just what I found in my industry... tell you what would be good for us though is automated MMS to send out mini property details... does anyone know how to do this?

And Is it possible to send new property details from out in the field back to the office, then straight out on MMS via our network?

sorry to hi-jack the thread

No problem with the thread hyjack!

I've not been able to get on my email all week - my orange mobile office card, well, doesn;t seem to work when I'm "mobile"...

So apologies to the other two if you've mailed me - can you mail me through my profile and I'll mail you from where I am at the momment - the same place that also has webmail blocked..... I don't really want to broadcast my work email address.

I'm intrested aswell in whats possible by SMS and MMS and how we can automate it.

I TOTALLY 100% agree, unsolicited emails, are one thing (which I hate completely aswell) but unsolicited texts which are costing you are just plain wrong. People who will be recieveing the texts from me will have already agreed to get them and they will also be able (take note guys) to text in to my server to set the limit on how many they recieve, and also to switch them off altogeth or just for a short time.

This will also all be configurable from a web page, however I belive the majority of customers will want to use the service via sms, which suits me too!

I don't believe any company that forces people to pay for something they don't want will last long.

I'm currently very excited about this venture! I'm intrested obviously in seeing what else is possible in the sms/mms as I dont confess to know about it, and there may be services I can use to make things even better.

Cheers,

JC

I have been using a service that provides a nice SOAP connection, can be used via PHP, Perl, VB, you name it.

They charge 10p per SMS though, which is quite a bit I think.

Does anyone know any cheaper providers?
