Was just thinking, wouldn't it be handy/interesting to have a database of all the PH business owners out there?

So if I needed a solicitor I could just search that subject and come up with all the PHers who offer that service.

Don't know if it's something which could be compiled and hosted elsewhere if necessary (with just a link from a sticky post perhaps), but just thought it would be nice to share work among ourselves wherever possible/appropriate.

Anybody got any opinions?

A while back I did add the 'occupation' field to the member profile. I'll do a search on that and see if it's been populated usefully or if everyone is a test pilot for Heineken or whatever

I seem to remember mungo proposing that we hit outselves on the head with a clenched fist in a kind rhythmic piston motion.

This was a few years ago, mind.

Not quite the same I think. Some people like to keep their PH identities seperate from real life. I think Groomi meant a seperate list somewhere, with services listed like a Yellow Pages.
(you might even be able to charge £5 a year for the service; I know you can't resist a quick buck )

Surely seperating your PH identity from your business identity would undermine the whole point of a PH directory?

I'll always put my name to my work. If you don't want to be entered in the directory then don't subscribe to it.

why not a simple PH based list much like the car classifieds section sorted A-Z for subjects (lawyers, builders, financial advisors () mechanics, I.T bods etc) for anyone who wants to be part of it? In the Ginetta Owners Club we list in the same manner

Some people are happy to have 'Fred Bloggs, Managing Director of ABC Industries' on their profile.
I don't because just in case I upset someone, I don't want them ringing me up and having a go. The Directory proposal is quite different from PH profiles. It would be more like:

BUSINESS DIRECTORY

Aardvark Stuffers Jones & Co, mammal stuffers
Beekeepers Honey Products Ltd
Chirpodists Miss Cheddar BSc

etc.

Each category has entries which are small business ads (or just hyperlinks). Costs nothing to run and could be very useful for everyone.

Over to you

If your not linked to your PH persona how can we tell wheter we trust your advice etc (hypothetically (sp?)). They could have just stuck their details in for free advertising.
I wouldn't worry about upseting anyone. Unless it gets stupidly out of hand then it shouldn't be a problem.

Seriously mate I know your full name and it wasn't hard to find out either. Don't worry the information will die with me

No problem, you have a qualifying criterion such as member for 12 months, or x posts, to show you're a genuine PHer and not a freeloader cashing in.

It needs to be tagged to your online identity to work properly, to give people more faith and make it a different form of networking that people have more faith in!
