When surrendering a lease a tenant may pay the Landlord a figure for Dilapidations for works the tenant hasn't done, and to compensate the Landlord for the rent they will not now receive.

Is there any taxable, VAT etc benefit for the tenant for the whole sum to be described as delapidations?

i had a lease with a well known landlord,i was warned about them chasing me for silly amounts (12000 was mentioned)
i was advised to get a solisitor to get the ammount below i think £5000 where it would be small claims court and the judge would be more symperthetic to you.
i had hassle for about 6 months countering all their claims and asking for photographic evidence etc and it looks like they have given up (fingers crossed)havnt heard from them for nearly a year

Are you asking this question from the point of view of the tenant or the lamdlord?

On reflection both! Might as well know both sides of the argument!
