Last time I had a SAGE question it got answered in here within 30 minutes - very impressed !! So, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out again. I'm going to be doing some work for someone who currently has SAGE Instant Account v6.02 (its about 4 years old). He wants to get the latest version from PC World "Instant Accounts Plus v10".

Does anyone have any idea what the upgrade path for this is ? Can you just install it and restore your data and it sorts itself out or is it more complicated than that ?

Any advise would be very much appreciated.

It is pretty much as you say and there are comprehensive instructions in the manual.

In a nutshell:

Check and backup the V6 data.

Insert V10 CD ROM and follow instructions selecting Custom Install.

When it asks you where you want the prog to be installed, you must tell it to use a different directory to where V6 is installed.

Once the installatin is complete and you run V10 for the first time, it will automatically detect the V6 installation and offer to import it's data and away you go.

Thank you - thats great !
If I can be really cheeky and ask you one extra question - how about if I install the new version directly onto my machine, but this guy sends me a backup of the data taken from v6. Will Sage detect that its from the older version and restore it successfully ? Or do I need to install v6 myself and then do the upgrade ?

Thanks so much for your help - its really appreciated.

You should just be able to restore an old V6 backup on to a V10 machine and it will upgrade the data to V10 as it restores it. I have certainly done this from V8 to V10 with no worries but have not tried it with V6.

There is nothing specific that I can see about this in the manual.

If you want to send me an empty V6 sage database, I can try it on my V10 before you buy if you want.

Yup, no problems converting from v6 (or any version of the Windows program) into v10 (or any version higher than the one you're on).

You can either install v10 over the top of your existing install and it'll convert the data when you start it or you can install into a new directory, use the wizard to create a blank company and then restore your v6 back up into it.

Any problems or questions, post or email me at tony.mather AT sage DOT com

Also, if you're interested I can get you 30% off the price offered direct from Sage sales.

Thanks both of you. That's really helped me out. I've got a new client who's got himself a bit behind. He's got an 18 month backlog on his accounts so I'm going to be pretty busy over Xmas !

Thanks again.
