Checking business sales

Is there any way of finding out which businesses in a certain sector have sold? Not necessarily after financials, but just need to do some research into who has bought what company in a couple of sectors.

I know that many moons (12+ years) ago when I was at University there were newspaper cuttings services on individual companies and industry sectors, which would if they are still available be the sort of thing you would be after.

Either get a Business Studies student to do a bit of a search for you, or try one of the better reference libraries/ Central Libraries in a large city near you, worth phoning before hand though.
