Any Motor Insurers out there?
Discussion
Looking to buy a car for our daughter who is about to learn to drive, I'd like to be able to get something 'interesting' because at times I'll be using it and don't really want to be driving around in some dodgy 1.0l Citroen AX or whatever.
Does anyone know where I can get a list of car insurance groups so I know where to start? It seems a damn sight easier than finding something and then checking groups and realising you need to sell a kidney or whatever.
At what group level does it get madly expensive too?
I'm thinking along this lines of a fun 4x4 or something but really don't know where to start.
Any help appreciated.

Ouch that hurts
But to your question, I suggest that no matter what you get for a youngster and first time driving it will be expensive on insurance whatever you get. A Clio 1.2 or 1.4 Dynamique might be a good bet, they are a good little drive.
This is a Clio 1.2 Dynamique
Picture taken from cliosport.net and will be removed on request
As for Insurance you could try www.insuresupermarket.com/motor/default.asp?p=0
or www.confused.com
or if you are really brave back of MAX POWER mag adverts for speacialist young drives etc..
My daughter is just staring to learn and the insurance is horrendous. Cheapest was on our Corsa diesel in my wife's name. It will go up nearly 3 fold when she passes her test and wants her own policy. I would forget the fun 4x4 unless you own the Bank of England currency printers

Adding to Trevor's post and answering more of my question.
I had used confused before and they are good.
Question; Would you hypotheticaly speaking buy
A) Citroen AX. Small, econimical, easy to drive approx £650 to insure (£150 more than the TVR!)
B) Shougun. Safe, fun, good visibility, better equipped. £1300 to insure (not quite double the AX)
I'm leaning towards the Shogun as I think it would be more practical for me to use too from time to time. not that these are the only 2 choices, but I'm getting a feel for it.
Also found This Web Site which is good for finding groups.

They both seem pretty decent quotes, depending on the excess, if they are in your daughters name. I would take a hit on doing it in her name, then she's earning valuable no claims bonus (and not ruining yours).
The best bet is to let her pass her test. Then do the pass plus course (30% discount off her First insurance). Most insurers will give her 30 days after the policy has started for her to do the course.

Thanks Jon, I'll look up some quotes in her name.
I wonder if you can answer me one question? Purely for ding I used Confused.com and requested quotes to add her to a couple of our existing cars.
Quote 1, to have her added to a Fiesta XR2i = £9628.00
Quote 2, to have her added to the TVR = £3575.00
How?
