I was wondering if anyone could help.
I am part of a family that has four drivers. Two of which are young drivers. None of the cars are extremely expensive, the most being £9000 for a LHD espace.
So the total value of all the cars is in the region of £20000.
However to insure these vehicle we are paying £3000.
This seems like alot to me, as my son who is very keen on cars currently drives a reasonably expensive but slow 1.2 polo. He would be happy with something cheap but a bit quicker.
Does anyone have any experience with setting up their own car insurance for family members. Non of my family has had an accident in the last 10 years.
All help appreciated. Thank you

Firstly, the value of the cars isn't the problem. It's the young drivers and the fact the "third party" bit of cover gives you £20,000,000 of damage to people or property which costs you. To put it into perspective most young drivers insurance pay at least a grand for the most basic of cars when 17-18.

But on the upside a company thats in the same network as us has the following website.

www.familyfleet.com

secondly if your house is worth over 750K you can try and get a chubb home and car insurance from Footman James who cover your cars in with your house for any member of the family to drive! FOC!

Thanks insurance jon. Few more questions tho.
Will Footman James insure all the cars under the house insurance? or only one of them?
Secondly is that contents insurance or buildings.
Final question, country life, under the family fleet will that give each member a 1 year ncb or only 1 member?

1. FJ will insure the whole fleet under the home insurance.

2. The house itself.

3. I don't know how the country life product works.

hope that helps

Yes and no, i.e yes you can do it but people who insure vehicles aren't as competative as people who do buildings and liabilities, and vice versa.

You could really do with getting a commercial broker (HINT HINT) to look things over for you.

If you need a second opinion you can get hold of me on 01924 895568, and if you need a reference just ask vixpy1 as he seems quite happy with the service so far.
