Now that Mr Brown hoovers a great deal of growth out of pension funds, that has to make pensions less attractive as a form of saving for the future.

And as we all know, pension funds are not cast-iron: they go up and down with the stockmarket like most other things. Would the premiums be better off in another form of saving?

Cheers - er - I think.

I was thinking that even a boring building society would do better than so called 'fund managers' who do no more than send me letters saying 'Dear Sir, we appear to have lost all your money/pissed it up the wall/bought some Bentleys with it, but now is an ideal time to invest...'

Put it this way......

I bought some Commercial property in Bury town centre in 1987 for 17.5k. Due to redevelopment in the area now worth in excess of 300k...

My house price has doubled in the last three years, along with many other PHer's I would imagine....

Show me ANY pension with these kind of returns....

So, Bricks and mortar IF you buy wisely, and are prepared to ride out the peaks and troughs.........

You can of course have commercial property in your pension fund. I suspect it won't be long before you can include your villa on the Costa del Crime!

I started up a small pension last year purely to make sure I have something in place. My aim is to do as mentioned above and invest in bricks and mortar.

That coupled with the millions I should make through a successful career, and I think it's all sorted

And soon, residential property. 'A' day is looming.
