I use Alliance and Leicester and everything seems OK. However I'm a small user and all my custom is 'customer not present' so I pay 3-4% commission. But the back up is very good and the helpline is always quick to answer.

Much nicer than Barclays who were snobby and arrogant - and wanted 5%!

I've just been going through this.

HSBC are doing a special offer at the moment.

£250 set up fee and no monthly equipment rental and unusage fee. The problem for me is that at least 20% have to be customer present and most of my business is mail/telephone order.

An alternative is Streamline from the RBS, the set up is £250, but there is no minimal useage fee and any mix of mail order and customer present.

Things to look out for are the additional charges, obviously there is the % charges on the value but there is also a 'connection charge' made for each connection! It is only penny's but it still has an effect.
