Need to get a fire safe for the company..... to keep all the data backup tapes safe, and a small amount of paperwork.

Any recoomendations and possible retailers?

You need to be careful about what you buy. You actually need a fireproof media safe, not a fire safe. A standard fire safe is not guaranteed to protect media.

Might also need to check with your insurance to make sure that there are happy with the model specifications.

Better to store at least some of the backups off site, security considerations permitting.

We already store off site, but need to keep our onsite backups in a fireproof safe, and was looking for recommendations!

I have looked into safes of all sorts over the last year.

Have a look on the net as to the make, model etc ie Phoenix data care/commodor etc.. and then go to ebay. (search under 'safe') Depends on how much time you have but some very good ones come up there at fantastic prices.

As another post mentioned what are you storing and how long a protection and from what theft, impact or fire or both. Are you on a ground floor? or 10 stores up? Clearly removing from site is a good idea or copy and remove.

Also an option is to go for a security cabinet for the space and security and then buy a fire media small safe to go inside.

I love safes and the way they work... Im lucky enough as our office is on an old post office and we have a humungus walk in safe - with bandit alarms/ time delays etc. keeps the donuts secure.
