Last year my income was so pathetic that I didn't pay an income tax. This year my book-keeper says I don't need to do anything. Whilst he used to call in each May and do the accounts, this year he hasn't bothered.

He's got a full-time job now and g/f and I suspect his mind isn't quite on the job. Even if I'm not liable for income tax, I might be missing out on something, eg a reclaim etc. Could this be true?

Depending on your advice I may need a new book-keeper...

a) did you receive a blank 2003/04 tax return for completion sometime after 6 April 2004 or a letter reminding you that you should complete a 2003/04 return?

b) did you have income that was not taxed at source or notified to the Inland Revenue in the year to 5 April 2004?

If any of the above apply - you should be completing a 2003/04 Self Assessment tax return.

Work stuff yes, but not much.

You MUST complete and return the tax form once you have been sent a blank one for completion. There is no escape .
