Hi,

I run my own business from rented serviced offices and so far have no liability Insurance.

We have a new ( our first) employee starting on Monday. What responsibilities do I have in terms of Insurance as an employer.

My Business is recruitment - so not much H&S exposure.

Thanks in advance.

I was under the impression that all companies had to have liability insurance of some sort. You'll certainly need employer's liability cover if you're taking someone on.

You have to have Employers & Public Liability insurance to protect yourself, staff and people visiting you.

The norm these days seems to be:

Employers Liability of £5m or £10m
Public Liability of £5m in any one claim

Just in case someone visiting your premises has a death wish...

You could speak to AON Insurance brokers or any broker near to you.

Get a couple of quotes because you don't know really how well these guys really shop around for you.

Or maybe even talk to an insurance company directly, if you have one that you use for other things like house or car insurance.

Me - 01924 895568 - I own a commercial brokers!

For you info there is only a legal requirement to have employers Liability cover, which used to be unlimited but is now set at a realistic figure of £10,000,000 (£5,000,000 per incident). The minimum Public Liability cover you can get is £1,000,000, but can be increased to 2 or 5.

You will be surprised how cheap it is for small firms these days as well (I hope)

Hi,

My new contract which started last week requires me to have Professional Indemnity insurance for at least £1m.

Can anyone recommend any brokers and give me an indication of how much this should cost? I have had a quote through the PCG (Professional Contractros Group) but this seemed extraordinarily high!

I can organise this for you, but PI insurance can be pricey dependant upon what industry you are in.

I can certainly get you a quote, it would probably be more cost effective if you took one out on an annual basis if you think you might need it again in the future.
