does anyone know roughly how much music artists receive for each unit they sell (i.e. a £9 album)

I think royalties vary a great deal, depending on the terms of the contracts set up with the music companies. They also vary depending on the artistes input into the song - i.e whether they are just the performers or had a hand in writing the song as well.

Fees are paid differently to each artist, based upon their popularity, previous history and the deal they signed with their management Co.
