Hi Folks...
As a small outfit, (me, myself & I plus the odd freelancer as required) my biz is exempt from some of the need to produce red tape (still plenty of it though) so have never got round to producing a full formal H&S Policy, discrimination policy, equal ops policy, policy for the integration of coffee, milk & sugar etc etc.
But I need to put something together - even though they accept a full multipage doc isn't required - for one of my academic clients to place on record.
Does any one have a handy Word file with some basic policies on that I could cut & paste?
(and if anyone's interested, the biz is in electronic engineering and industrial imaging along with IT Support which has grown out of the instrumentation side of the 'pure' electronics biz.)
Cheers - PBF

One of the most useful things you can do is have an Incident Report form printed out and available, that you can fill out and have around. Something where you can put down all of the details of any incident that occurs, that you can refer back to if you need to.
A lot of H&S is common sense(and a lot of it isn't), just so long as you log anythng serious and make sure you can say you reported anything to the relevant people(ambulance, BiB etc.) that covers a multitude of sins.
I used to do care work, and if it's good enough for a report that starts "Patient X ripped a door off its hinges and threw it at me", it should cover anything you will need.

You could always ask for an example. I had to do a 'Health & Safety' thing before I could use this for filming: www.autograph.uk.com/helicopter.htm
So I asked them what they meant and they said 'Think of all the things that could go wrong, and the steps you take to mitigate/avoid them'. For example:
Problem: it could fall out of the sky and land on someone's head.
Answer: Don't fly it over people
A few of those and they were happy.

Cheers all - put together a couple of pages of politically correct comment so if you're a one-armed lesbian paper-hanger from the sacred island of onoko then you're now guarenteed fair treatment
So you happy to discriminate against one-armed lesbian paper-hangers from other islands then? As you're in contravention of EU Law 73453539857932 that'll be a £5,000 fine and your head on a spiked post please.
