I know this is a prickly subject but...

I'm trying to find out a bit more about the ins and outs of putting a reeeeally big content-managed membership-based site together. Something with lots of functions and tools, in some ways quite like PH(though not motor-related). The more I look into it, the more it looks like it would need to be coded from scratch rather than based on an open-source system, which is looking quite pricey.

I have heard of basic coding being outsourced to cheaper shores, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this? Main things I need to know are the benefits and potential pitfalls, how much of a saving can be had and generally if I really can get a better deal for the same end result by going down this road. Any thoughts?

Drop Wayne (former Tuscan racer) at www.reverbmedia.com . He's got a lot of experience of outsourcing coding overseas.

I also may be able to help - we have a facility in the Philippines who are currently doing development work for blue chips.

Not sure if this can help but the guys at AdrenalinTrip have been building some pretty scalable and feature rich forum software for many years.

Outsourcing is killing our industry!

Agreed.

All these outsourcers are going to feel pretty silly in a few years when outsourcing gets outsourced.

Or when there's nothing left to outsource...

Or when there's no one doing any proper work here to support their pensions...

Nothing personal, you understand.
