Anyone who deals in PABX solutions should be able to help.

You may even be able to get one off ebay for a small sum and find the documentation to configure it.

I deal with Rockwell a bit, but thats probably overkill for this situation...

As suggested, perhaps buy a small PABX, such as the Panasonic range [up to 3 lines with 8 extensions, drop in a card to provide up to 6 lines to get up to 16 extensions] good value for money, install yourself, get a local specialist or most electricians often offer service, would quote myself if more local

You have a few options for connecting the phone system to the outside world

Multiple analogue lines
Multiple ISDN2 lines
A single ISDN30 line with multiple channels (between 10 minimum, I think and 30)

The ISDN lines can have ranges of numbers allocated to them .. e.g. at work we have 200 numbers allocated across 18 lines. Each incoming or outgoing call just uses up a free 'line'.

little confusing to tell the truth. does anybody think it's worth calling BT and having them run through the basic optioins for a cost effective solution.

If you can get the system I would be able to fit for you at reasonable cost

I work for this company www.southern-comms.co.uk (not meant as a plug) and we do indeed deal in Phone systems, if however you want something Cheap and Cheerful then there are plenty of companys that sell Pan KXTD 816's (8 Lines and 16 extensions) you would not be able to have ISDN30 with it although you would be able to have ISDN 2 which should be ample if you have less than a dozen people - the minimum switch on for ISDN30e is 8 Channels, unless you have a telesales operation 4 channels would probably be fine (2 x ISDN2)for the 10 ext's you want (the features and functionality would be the same for both ISDN2 and 30e ie. DDI, CLI etc.)

In all honesty BT will not be the place to get a cost effective phone system from

NB. we do not actualy sell the Panasonic range of phone systems as we deal generally with more high end stuff

The Pan KXTD has been replaced and so should be cheap as chips to buy. if you know someone that can install and program it (and it sounds like dontlift can) then that will probably be your best option.
