Can anybody reccomend some good accounting software? I'm not VAT registered at the moment but hope to eventually go that way. I'm looking for as cheap as possible!

Thanks in advance!

My guess is most people will say SAGE!

IMO The low cost versions of Sage hasn't changed from when I used it 10 years ago!

I depends how much is 'cheap' I have a start up wholesale company and run Office2 from Hansa which is great.

Full quotes, sales, invoicing, purchase orders and stock control. + a CRM package and even leter writing and email.

Software was £750, Support £250 and set up / training another £500. I use it everyday, find it intuative and simple and even my accountant wife likes it.

www.hansaworld.com had a demo system on it that did everything but print.

Highly recommended.

How sophisticated do you want it to be?

If you are not VAT registered, you may not need a full blown, double-entry book-keeping system. A cash book style set of spread sheets might suffice.

Personally I use Sage for my small business, the Instant Accounts version, not Line 50. I believe its around £100 at the moment.

I find it does all I need and has helped me to find out things about accounting that I didn't know I needed to know!

On the other hand a few of my clients use Quick Books and rave about that as well.

If you happen to bank with Barclays, talk to them about Clearly Bookkeeping. It is QuickBooks Pro worked over by Barclays, but rather than buy it, you can rent it for a small cost each month. And you are always up to date.

Quickbooks is good and you can probably find a copy on eBay for about £50. A new version is only about £120. I'd recommend it - fairly easy to get to grips with even without any accounting skills.

Our company started off using 'Dosh'. Back up from the company was good and it was a fair bit less than Sage.
