advertising spend?
Discussion
Whilst the average is 5%, it's actually quite misleading to use this as a base for your own activity (although better than nothing!)
Much depends on the market in which you operate, what you sell, how you sell it and what your turnover is.
It's also about your long term strategy.
For example, if you have a 5 year plan, the strategic requirements may dictate that in year one, you spend as much as 50% on advertising in order to stake your ground, but reducing in year 2 to, say 35% and again in year three to 15%.
Also worth remembering that advertising alone rarely works - you need other marketing activites to support the messages being given - only then does it all start to gel.
If you need more specif advice, mail me through the profile.
(I run an Ad agency just in case you couldn't guess!)
