Just had the most frustrating phone call. My largest client is a medium-sized construction company - I've been doing all their PR and marketing communications for nearly three years. I've just been told that they are having to suspend the retainer because the marketing has been too successful. Their sales have increased by 400% and they have so much work queued up that they don't know how to service it all. Sadly this means I lose my largest source of income - albeit with a promise to resume in a few months' time when they have got on top of their order book. Feel half elated and half depressed. Anybody need some good PR and marketing?!!

Sounds like a good story to market yourself to other companies!

Work in the same industry and have faced the same situation a couple of times.

You could try going back to them and suggesting that the services you provide alter to one of gaining retention and loyalty amongst the customers you have created for them!

As Hates says - an excellent testimonial for you though!

Isn't it possible to share the load with another similar size company in the same field as yourself?

Good luck anyway.

Agree with Steviebee. Go back to them and suggest some long term strategising & concept development while the work is light. Indeed, if you have a good relationship, be honest and suggest that a bit of work (cash) in the tide you over would be rather helpful, and save you having to find another Client (reducing the time you could give them when they come back).

Of course, you've probably thought of this, and just wanted to blow off steam.
