We pick up our Discovery 4 in a weeks time. The other car we have is a remapped Defender. Driving a standard Defnder and then the remapped shows the magic that some people can perform. However, there seem to be less options available for the Disco. Has anyone had a remap done yet? I see DMS and Bell will remap but neither JE nor Twisted seem to have anything yet. Any experiences would be gratefully received.

Also, I see some remap and others use a plug in box which can put the car back to standard. Does this help when the car is serviced or can LR still see that the ECU has been flashed and therefore void the warranty.

Cheers

I agree, it's a 4x4 at the end of the day, but it really is fast enough for what its used for in standard form.....

If the best known LR tuners are not yet ready to sell a mapping service I really would wait until they are

The DMS remap is very impressive on the 3.0 TDV6.......well worth the money.

What is the DMS remap doing to it. I use my Disco 4 regularly between Munich Airport and Austria and top speed is limited to 188 km/h where it travels effortlessly - a bit more top speed would be nice.

I had my 911 and the Discovery 4 remapped at the beginning of March 2010 by DMS.

The performance across the board on both cars is very impressive.

For day to day driving the changes are very noticeable in the Disco. Immediate pick up from standstill, lower revs for a any given speed, The torque is mind blowing and gives real extra punch at motorway speeds.

I have re mapped all the diesel and turbo cars I have owned. The Disco has been the most impressive in what it adds on a daily real world basis. Thoroughly Recommended and the DMS guys are real enthusiasts and a pleasure to deal with.

How does a re-map 'lower revs for any given speed'; surely you would need to alter the transmission or wheel/tyre size to do that?

The increase in torque means less engine revs required for a given speed. The DMS remap gives approx 25% extra torque and 20% extra bhp This is why there is the potential for better economy , so long as you aren't tempted to use the extra performance all the time.

Be aware that Land Rover will wash their hands of any outstanding warranty on remapped cars.

Huh? Just about the only way to lower the revs is to alter gearing somewhere in the drive train.
Are you sure you don't mean less throttle for a given speed?

Depends what kind of relationship you have with your dealer I suppose.

I have remapped well over 30 Land Rover products and still had warranty work done to some ofthem and the dealer knew full well the cars had been tweaked. None of the work was related to driveline issues so I guess that may be why!

Unlikely for Ashcrofts, they specifically recommend certain upgrades for tuned vehicles...

Hi guys I can see its been a while since anyone has posted on this topic and I just wanted to know if anyone has any updates on the remapping of the disco 4's? In particular the SDV6 (256Bhp)? I am looking at remapping but would appreciate some info and suggestions regarding the names of some reputable remapping companies and also wanted to know if anyone and any transmission issues since the torque is increased. Also wondering about the brakes and other wear and tear on the cars?

The newer D4's need the ECU removed from the car and opened up to get remapped before getting built back up.

Currently there is no OBD port remap available for them so you are limited to Alive i think.

I got a BAS remap installed on my D3 and speaking to them, they are working on a OBD port remap for the D4s but it won't be out till next year.

You could always just try driving it first?!?!

The D4 is 2.7t, it isn't a sports car but drives nicely as it is. If you want a fast car... Get a fast car.
