Defender 90 50th Annniversary V8
Discussion
Thinkink of buying one of these, the ones ive seen are currently for sale between 12 to 15k.
Any one got any experience of them , specificially , what are they like to drive as a day to day road/tow car.
We allready have a V8 Disco and an old 90 Turbo D.
Would hope that the 50th will be more like the Disco than the old 90.
BTW do later 90's still leak water in like my turbo D does?

Well if they don't there's something wrong with them
Can't really help regarding the 50th Ann. Defenders, supposedly they're better than a standard 90, I've read of someone that's had 150mph out of his , a braver man than I.
If nothing comes from PH try posting on www.lro.com

Can anyone let me know the web address of the 5oth ann. defender owners club? thanks.
I could also do with some info on the economy of the v8, regearing and rechipping. I have heard that the v8 in standard form has less grunt than a td5 defender.

Sorry i forgot to say about the other stuff.
With regards to fuel econamy i have never worked it out as i would rather not know.
The gearing on a 50th is not great as it is the same as a NAS so designed for lower cruzing speeds.
The best thing to do is to have the final drive ratios changed in the transfer box from 1:22 to 1:410. This make it alot quicker and keeps it pulling thought the revs. Makes it alot more responsive.
The re-chipping can be done by Mark Adams the GEMS ecu guru. He's the best guy in the country to do this.
Mine has had both done as its 0-60 is now 9.5secs and i think an origonal one is 12.5 seconds.
If you want any more info you can e-mail me: defender50th@hotmail.com
Some good info is also available on Allans site (GB 010) at: http://freespace.virgin.net/dr.allangreen/
Best regards

Adam,
Don't worry about economy go buy one
If you really must know I do a mixture of country lanes with hills / A & B roads on a 20 mile commute to work. Katy does about 16mpg on the work run. What you get on the motorway depends on how fast you go. You can sit at 80mph all day if you can stand the consumption, I rarely do long runs on the motorway so I am not terribly sure what it would work out at, sorry. If you venture off road you are in single figures but it is SO worth it.
If you need any further info let me know or look here...

There's one on eBay at the moment.
Don't know much about it but it looks clean enough though. I don't think it's on the register but James is the man for that really.

And another that is heavily modded for off road fun. Still looks clean though.

The one in the previous post has also been relisted. It must be worth a look if you fancy one.
