Land Rover to dish up some competition for the Cayenne

Land Rover is to take on Porsche's Cayenne with a new concept car to be debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 5, 2004.

The Range Stormer will be a high-performance 4x4 in the mould of the Range Rover but with more sporting/aggressive overtones. It follows the release of some teaser photos for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year.

Commenting on the new concept, Land Rover's managing director Matthew Taylor, said: "Range Stormer is a modern, striking, high-technology vehicle. It is very much conceived to be an on-road, high performance machine, as well as class-leading off-road like all Land Rovers. Breadth of ability is one of its many strengths. "

Land Rover design director, Geoff Upex added: "It is possible to apply Land Rover design language to a vehicle of totally different proportions and still make it very obviously a Land Rover. This is what we've done here, and the result is a Land Rover like nothing that has been seen before. "

Further information and photos are to be released on January 2nd.

Hmmmm ... this will be the "fast back" Rangie that's been previewed for the last couple of years.

Think I prefer the Range Rover Sport name than the "Stormer"

I have to say it but Land Rover (sadly) are doing the right thing........for business.

They've seen that these SUV's are what people want and if they can make a better one than the competition then they'll be leading the market once again.

It's the way business goes, good luck to them, just don't f**k up the Defender or you'll lose alot of customers. Really not looking forward to the release of the new one

Often been tempted to drop a AJP8 in a Jeep Grand cherokee - just to see what would happen.

Pointless but fun until you tried to go round a corner.
