I think I'm about to buy an old V8 landrover for a bit of off road fun. Anyone here do any of that ? It's a while since I've done any so if anyone does any off road fun days can you tell me which are the best ? (Also any info on what to look out for when buying an old V8 landie would be appreciated)

Whack this up on the Land Rover forum.

Best place to look would be the back of the Land Rover mags, always plenty about.

Join the All Wheel Drivers Club, they organise plenty of fun days.

You local off road club may be able to help too.

Best of luck,

Graham

I took Suzi-Q out today to do a bit of Landie bashing. Suzi was coughing a bit - dirty fuel and I ripped the exhaust off, but still managed second place. Diahatsu came first, but I was hot on its heels.

Anyway - your question....

For towing etc series I isn't upto the job nowadays. You'll need a series IIA onwards 90" wheel base and longer.

If it's just off roading - 88" series I is ok, but the V8 has a habit of breaking halfshafts through shock loading. A better idea is to take the body off a suzuki jeep, then bolt the body of the series I ontop - it does fit perfect and you have Japanese reliability with British good looks. I've seen it done and it went really well off road - lightweight body gives little chance of roll overs.

I'll post a piccie of it later.

You'd get more advice and help learning how to drive off road with a local club. They will organise playdays and trails - get involved and listen to thier advice. Don't be scared, if they say it'll be ok, it will be.

Blooming sacriledge !! Series Is are great fun, but bits are harder to get hold of now. Any Series II, IIA or III will do for what you want. Parts are cheap and there are many already with V8s in.
