I've just bought a RR TD6 and was interested in increasing the power up to more sporty standards.

Has anyone got any experience / recommendations for this?

have heard of various people that mod them ie chips, coolers ect, but have also heard it kills the mpg!

My choice would be Van Aaken and Overfinch.

Overfinch do a +25 bhp & 71 lb ft torque for the TD6, it's just a re-programmed ECU (part number L322-1-04), can't off the top of my head remember how much it is though.

Give them a ring on - 01252 731950

JE Engineering also produce tuning options for the RR TD6, they can supply a re-programmed Ecu and also do a sports exhaust.

they can be found at www.jeengineering.co.uk/ but there is no RR TD6 info on the website yet.

I am interested in the chip myself and will be contacting them when my TD6 is run in.

How long have you had your TD6, have noticed that the clock/date feature has a fault?

I've got an '03 TD6. I came out of an X5 3.0D sport which had had a Superchip enhancement. I missed the performance (but loved the ride, the motorway comfort and the space). I went straight to my local Superchips dealer for a 30bhp upgrade but he couldn't fit their chip (nor could a 2nd dealer) because my car didn't have a VIN number in the ECU. So, instead of messing about, I got in touch with Overfinch and have had their performance chip fitted. It makes a big difference - the TD6 always felt like it was working hard before - lots of engine roar that the X5 doesn't have. Now, the beast feels much more responsive, always seems to be in one gear higher than before and is generally fab. I then went and added an acoustic blanket from Actech in Somerset - see www.actech-group.com/LandRoverKit.htm. This makes a lot of difference, although it is still a bit noisier than the X5 when pulling away. It is much quieter at motorway speeds, though. Fuel consumption remains much the same - 23mpg overall, 27mpg on a run -both 2mpg down on the X5. Incidentally, I've added lots of other non-standard stuff - Overfinch's fantastic 7 seat conversion, my own Alpine DVD Navi system, DVD movie system, Bluetooth phone kit, privacy glass etc etc. More mortgage than sense!

Just thought I would update my last post, I have had a re-programmed ECU fitted by JE Engineering in Coventry for £480 + VAT, and it is worth every penny and more, it transforms the car, it is quieter as it spends more time in higher gears, and mid range power is incredible.

I have also just fitted an acoustic blanket under the bonnet, which has lowered the tone of the sound coming in to the cabin, but I don't think it has made as much difference as I expected. But I only fitted it today and I haven't had a real chance to test it yet.

I also had the ECU on my RR TD6 remapped by JE Engineering, the difference is remarkable, IIRC the BHP is increased from 174 to 218, and torque from 390 tp 488, all this for £485+vat, bargain. I think the MPG has been adversely affected (obviously!) but nothing too dramatic (around 23mpg overall). This amount of HP increase for that little money is great value, I also have a Porsche 996 TT, and they offer a factory 30 HP power increase for £8709.

44 BHP for £569.88 = £12.95 per HP
30 BHP for £8709 = £290.30 per HP

Hmm...not sure that's good value!!

drsh, I bought my RR in June this year and think it's a brilliant car, can't say I've noticed any problem with the clock / date function, but let me know what it is and I'll see if mine does it too.

Since I posted my last message above, I've changed my Range Rover TD6 for a 4.4 V8 and have fitted an LPG conversion, produced by www.gascarco.com - you'll see pictures of my car on their site. The reason? I do a lot of miles - 30,000 or so per year - and I could not reconcile the noise levels and still relatively low performance of my Overfinch chipped TD6 versus the relatively poor diesel economy. Now I have smoothness, remarkable performance and half price fuel. The 4.4 V8 averages 18mpg on petrol and 17mpg on gas. LPG is less than half price so I've got a 35mpg equivalent V8 Range Rover. Still more mortgage than sense!
