Hi guys,
Got a defender Td5 Hardtop, only problem is that the visibility when pulling out at junctions is crap!
I have thought of getting some triangle shape side windows put in. They are about 10 inches across at the top and the same lenght as the passenger window. same shape as on of those long triangle patractor things.
I have been told that if i get these fitted then it may change the taxation class of the vehicle and that i could end up with a big bill from the DVLA. Anyone know about this sort of thing?
Also does anyone know the best type of wing mirrors to combat this blind spot problem?
Thanks

JSG

I know full length windows can affect the taxation class, and seats in the rear will. However the small windows you are describing are ok I think as they are viewed in the same way as those fitted to the mk3 Escort van.

Could be wrong though.

Thanks, although the place i bought it from fitted bench seats with lap belts in the back as part of the deal. Should i have told anyone about that?
Also just as a tip for anyone with a hard top and seats in the back: Every time i go across or under the Dartford Crossing the machine always comes up with £1.80 for a van, however all you need to say is " it's got seats in the back" and they change the tarrif to £1 no Qestions.

I have a 90 HT and your right its a sod at junctions. I just sit more upright (better anyway in the event of being rearended (LR says they should be under 30% reclined anyway)) I have seen the modifications done to a 90 with a triangular window. so it is possible. no ideas as to legality tho.

putting windows in should have no affect on taxation. Is it not registered/ taxed as a PLG anyway?
