Fish has decided he wants a Land Rover, don't ask me why, boys and their toys

He has been looking for a couple of weeks and saw one last night, phoned me at work today to say he had bought it, well put a deposit on it, without going to see it... is that wise? he reckons the bloke seemed pretty genuine, only time will tell. All I know is its red with a white roof, I think its a series 3 long wheel base, well thats what he was originally looking for anyway. No power steering though, so I will probably have trouble driving it. So we are now a three vehicle couple

Anyway just thought I would show my face considering we may soon have one

Welcome to this madhouse, mrsfish and fish!

SIII LWB is a good choice.
Don't worry about driving, Lisa; my last g/f sold her Alfa to buy a matt olive S3 LWB. She lives downtown, and reports to have not more issues with parking than with the Alfa. She also likes that 'extra respect' from other road users The only thing I'm afraid of is, that she's becoming more Landy- than I am.

WAY TO GO FISH!!!

And what a fine choice of vehicle, my first car was a Series 3 109

Don't worry about the non-power steering, it's not TOO bad.

Just enjoy it

My first was an S3 but the taxi motor diesel, it conked out in Lille, and had to be towed back behind a 4track, the steering is not a problem, as the wheel is like a tractors, but you should dress for the outdoor life, as they are all a bit drafty.

Just to clarify it's a red Series 111 stage 1 V8 with hardtop. I will probebly put some sticks and a sand canvas on the rear. Should be in pretty good origional condition with just the odd weld needed. Oh and a new wiper motor.

Now how do you get the restricter out of the V8 and who is the best insurer for a 1980 Landy...NFU?

Can't wait just off to HPI it.... for now

Undo both carbs, and you'll see them.

I've often read in LR magazines, that they had to be smashed into three pieces with a chisel, and the chips being sucked out with a vac cleaner

I got them out without! They have three or four holes (depends on age, I think), and I've put a hook in one and just pulled. Worked fine on both sides. If they're sticky, use some WD40, might help (it does with most niggles, so ... ).

I've also removed the rear silencer , but that's another story

PS. got a SIII wiper motor left over, but they're eventually easier to get in the UK

Well done Fishes, great fun vehicles, cheap as chips to run (except petrol in V8s).

NFU are good for insurance, there are also many 'specialist' insurers (see back of Landy mag) although some of these don't live up to their claims - phone for a few quotes.

Just had one for the week - gave it back today Wouldn't mind another one, although considering it was a TDi it was shite on fuel
