Hi Guys,

just wondering if anyone can shed any light on a problem that's started to happen with the freelander.

1.8 petrol, has developed a "chugging" when you press the accelerator down hard, if you feed it in there is no problem, only when you put your foot down.

swapped the air filter for a new one on saturday and it has helped alot but the problem is still there just not as bad.

its not just when its cold, its not just when hot.

it happens whatever gear you are in and only started doing it a few days ago.

I am sending it to the main dealer today but have spent ALOT of money with them to fix a previous problem which turned out not to be what they fixed, so im a little cautios of them now.

previous problem was HT leads for the record, they took the head gasket off new cambelts etc etc etc cost a pretty penny and then turned out to be a faulty ht lead which once replaced the car was fine (and my wallet a whole lot lighter)

any ideas guys?

Thanks in advance.

I'm going to suggest that it may be the throttle position sensor.

I agree, it definately sounds like a sensor problem... Could also be camshaft sensor (I think these have them???) as sounds like the problem I had with my old Cavalier a lonk time ago!! It may be worh getting it put on a diagnostic computer BEFORE authorising any work!!

Sending it to a main dealer might be the first of your car's problems. Is it worth hunting out a specialist in your area? The k series is a well known engine and isn't exactly a complicated engine that needs a 60 quid per hour technician.

They could be right... The K-Series is a gasget eater!! They are fairly simple though... I'd take it to an independent who has computer diagnostic equipment and get them to test it, and do a compression test. It's rare to get 'early' warnings of head gasgets going without other signs, such as oil/water mix or temp rising.

Be wary of main dealers... They do, generally, earn commision on the work they do...
