How do I go about researching local green lanes and byways that I can legally traverse in my Land Rover?

Local Land Rover or 4x4 clubs will as likely as not have records on drivable lanes.

Otherwise arm you with a local OS Explorer map. Byways are shown and some other routes that might be derivable are marked with green dots. To confirm these are ok to drive you will need to contact your county council Rights of Way and or Highways departments.

Unfortunately many hundreds of miles of drivable right of way have been lost due to the NERC bill that was passed by parliament earlier this year.

As above. Your local Landrover club or allwheel drive club will probably have an appointeted member who is the Right of way 0fficer. It might be worth joining one of these clubs as they'll have the local knowledge.

What about contacting your local GLASS representative? If there isn't a representative for your county, try a neighbouring county - often their knowledge overlaps. Most counties have a regular pub meet and all members have access to Wayfinder, the national rights of way datbase. If you would like to know more, PM me.
