I'm looking to buy a cheap diesel 4x4, and I've been in contact with a seller of a Range Rover diesel, who says the engine is a 2497cc rover diesel engine. I believe he's selling on behalf of a relative so may not be up on land rover engines.
Does this sound like a tdi or an earlier Turbo D?
Thanks
Simon

May be a VM. They actually have the potential to be a very good engine (powerful / free reving) but almost all of them suffer from stupid owners and get scrapped. no water etc...

If its a VM then steer clear.Potential head trouble. not one head but 4 individual heads which can result in a bill btween £1500 too £2000 if head trouble arises.

Agreed yes the VM engine was scrap when it left the factory IMHO get a tdi if you can or sell some organs and run a V8 hehe

Thanks, I thought it better to wait for a cheap disco tdi.

What are the main things to check with the tdi engine?
