Which one?

Not another which car thread?? - Sorry in advance.
I know this is the landrover section but some of you guys must have experience with other marques also.

I`m a UK ex pat living in The Netherlands
I`m looking at buying a derelict farm and land in the middle of nowhere in the wooded hills of Portugal to renovate and I`ll be needing a decent workhorse 4wheel drive.
It needs to be strong enough for trailer towing/dragging trees out etc
It has to be diesel and capable of running on a veggie oil/diesel mix.
Airco is essential (40 degree heat isn`t nice driving/working weather) although that`s the only luxury I need.
It needs to be fairly comfortable for occasional long hauls between Holland/UK/Portugal (probably with trailer).
Reliability is very important.
Preferably under 3000cc - as the road tax is cheaper.
Dents,scratches and bits of missing trim IMHO just add character, but rust is a no-no.
Budget around £5000

Any ideas/suggestions??
Obviously I will be buying a LHD on this side of the water, just looking for any make/model reccommendations.

Go for Discovery for more comfort and warmth.
Defender for ruggedness(sp).
Make sure you get a Tdi.
