LandRover in all but name?
I know noting about these but a letter just dropped on my doormat inviting me to a Test Drive event at a local clay pigeon club (what the link is I do not know...oh apart from fields and mud?)
Im sure I shall be attending, just thought I would share with you all

Metalurgica de Santa Ana (later to become Santana Motor SA), was the Spanish engineering company that signed a deal with Rover Company to build Land Rovers under licence. The first were built in 1958 from CKD kits, but local content was gradually increased until the Santanas were 100 per cent locally manufactured.

Is it April 1st already??
Perhaps it was the combination of the words Spanish & Engineering which made it appear as a joke
Be interested to see how these stack up, quick look at the list prices and there really doesn't seem to be much in it when compared to the pucker LR product. Factor in some no doubt heavier depreciation and can't see why you would want to go there.

They are about 5 to 7.5 grand cheaper than a LR. Think of them more like a series 4. Depreciation isn't as bad as you think. The 2.8 is a good engine and is a popular upgrade on the 2.5 tdi. They use quite a few LR parts but are a bit more passenger friendly.
Personally I prefer coils to leaf springs but hey, they are still very capable, could be a good alternative if you don't like the new defender dash.
I did read the article in one of the Landy mags a few months back where they did a group test with a tidy series 3, Santana PS10 and a TD5 110
It was very interesting, IIRC, the outcome was that they preferred the 2.8 engine to the TD5, felt the Santana had a more car like interior (not sure if that was a compliment or a criticism!) both were very similar on road with the 110 having the edge off road due to the traction control etc. The series 3 was deemed as outclassed completely on road but still very capable off road.
I think that the Santana must be worrying Land Rover as I'm sure I read somewhere else that it's also passed the MOD's procurement specifications and that they're also bringing out a SWB to compete against the 90 next year.
Enjoy your day out FUBAR

Oi TC, why dont you dig the cerb out and come down with me? We could drive round in them, then get out, point and laugh (after having eaten any refreshments that may be on offer, of course )
If the invite extends to 2 and you are serious then would love to (date permitting)
Is this just some cunning plan so I have to pay you back that tenner I owe you

Station Wagon Santana is showing an OTR price of £20,467 for the standard spec whereas the LR cheapest offering (in 110 guise) is £23,000 so only £2.5k differnce and you are getting coil springs to boot. I do admit I have not got deeper into the spec of each so it may be that the standard Santana competes more closely in other areas with the County or other adjustments need to be made, but on those figures I don't think it would sway me away from a LR.
Cant see why not TC. I'll give them a call next week and make sure its OK (havent even confirmed myself yet)
Dates available Thurs 12th October or Friday 13th Im inclined to go on Friday the 13th. I mean, if we're gonna roll a 4x4, then that must be the perfick date
On and off road test drive and ooh lookie, hot and cold refreshments. Probably do the morning (10am start) so I can get to work in the arvo

You dont even have virtual ones
You plus me and we could sneak another in if you find a tramp on the side of the road who will pretend to be your mate for the day (though your car may smell a bit 'pissy' after giving him a lift )
Location is just off the A272, near the BlueBell Railway/Haywards Heath. I'll meet you at either Pease Pottage or on the junction of the A23/A272. Doesnt start till 10am, reckon even the way you drive you can make it in 2 hours
