Hello,

I have developed a quick-shift short throw kit to be used on the R380 gearbox and in particular with a Defender 90 300 Tdi in mind.

I am looking for a Defender owner local to Loughborough who will be willing to fit this kit and test it on their vehicle.

All that is required to fit the kit is to remove the existing gear lever and turret and then fit a new "modified" turret, this should take no longer than 30 minutes.

If anyone is willing to take part in this experiment then please contact me via my email.

Cheers,

Olly.

I am not aware that this contravenes any of the Forum rules, however if it does I appologise.

Hi Greenlady,

as long as your Landrover has an R380 gearbox the short-shift kit will fit.

I havnt been able to get a look at the older LT77 box yet but I believe the R380 is simply a re-worked version of this gearbox hence the short-shift kit may also potentially retro-fit to these older gearboxes as well.

Thankyou for replying to the post.

The inaugural test run of the quick-shift went according to plan this morning and I can report that both the feel and speed of the shift were greatly improved.

We started by driving the standard Landy around for a bit to get a feel for the standard gearshift and then fitted the modified kit.

The new shift is much more positive as well as reducing the throw by more than our required 50%. The only downside being that 3rd gear is more awkward to select than it was previously. We are going to adjust the kit to provide exactly a 50% reduction in throw which will make selecting 3rd considerably easier - any more than this and it just wouldnt be owrth doing.
