Hi

Am thinking about getting either a P38 RR or a V8 Disco II (or maybe a really nice V8 Disco I).

Have been doing all my reading up on what to look out for - have trawled through pages of this PH LR section as well

I have a noobie question...

Considering I will be getting something that has done some miles and the most talked about issues is keeping the cooling system working perfectly - should I avoid something that has got bullbars and spotlights covering the radiator at the front - I can only assume that it restricts the airflow and therefore resulting in making everything work that little harder to keep it cool or am I talking bollox?

I have no idea, but while browsing I wondered if it was something to consider (along with avoiding one with a tow bar, getting one with FSH and keeping lots of cash available for fuel )

Cheers in advance

also - are the 4.0 V8's in the Disco II's basically the same engine as the Rover V8, and is that the same 4.0 in some of the P38's? - or is it some BMW/Ford version?

3.9 disco is basically the same as the 4.0 RR, bar a few minor changes.

I wouldn't worry about the spotlights, the visco fan should yank enough air through when it needs to. Just make sure the stat and radiator are in top condition. Although i doubt you'd need spotlights given how good the main beam on the RR is.

Which reminds of of a question I meant to ask ages ago. My dad is looking at getting a Mk 2 facelift Discovery for his next motor. Did they ever do the petrol engine version with a manual box?

cheers for the replies - actually I dont want bullbars and would take them off, but I was wondering if a car that had done xxx miles with bullbars would have suffered buy doing all those miles with something in front of the radiator.

with the disco having the same engine, is it fair to assume that the porus block issues (that after reading half this forum, to be honest are putting me right off P38's) are the same with Disco's too?

Yes but they prevent touch parkers!
