A member of the family has a couple of very early series 1's for restoration.

What are these things worth either restored or unrestored?

On was something like a 54 and one a 57.

Price depends on how original they are and obviously condition, its the early 80 inch versions that command the most money. Yours are 86inch and 88 inch versions. Average running ones with an MOT are £1,500 to £2,000 ish, restored ones with original parts £5,000+. It really varies wildly as people mis-describe what they have so comparing 2 like for like is not easy.

More powerful .... but less original and thus less value.

For some idea I thought 80 inches stopped production in 1953?

In answer to your question though, I bought my partially restored and largely sound 1951 model with matching chassis and engine at the bargain price of £800. I have spent another £4k restoring it and its probaly worth around £5kish.

Its definately an 80", think it must have been a 52.

I think the jag engine was some sort of factory test or something.

it needs an awful lot of work as its a non runner, so despite being offered it free it sounds like it might not be worthwhile...

Would be nice to have it restored, always a pity to see them get cut up etc. Maybe put an advert on here for them and hope someone wants a winter project!

how much is "an awful lot of work"? There are enthusiasts looking out for projects all the time. Also, spares on these early ones can be worth a bit too. If the Jag engine was indeed factory fitted, then it may in fact be a rare model??

I'm positive you would find some interest here http://groups.msn.com/TheSeriesOneGar from people all over the globe.

Benno, I would be interested in the 80" series one to restore to original if it became available / for sale

I will mention it. What would it be worth to you? bearing in mind its for restoration in every sense of the word - although low mileage from memory
