Thinking about one of these as a bit of a fun family car.....

However, 3 times a year we pootle down to Cornwall for a family holiday - 310 miles in one go.
I don't go that fast - 80 max (well 85 if the red mist descends) as I normally have two surfboards and a roofbox on top of a Renault Scenic....
I'm more concerned about the noise, comfort etc.
Will my girls be deaf when we get there?

(incidentally my girls are 3 years and 4 months old respectively. If they were teenagers I wouldn't bother asking - they'd already be deaf from Ipod abuse).

A sound proofing kit for the floor and transmission tunnel will make a difference and with that they're not too horribly loud... My main issue (and the main reason I'm holding off getting one) is that they struggle above 70. Admittedly my experience is in a roofrack/rooftent carrying 110 but in much of a headwind or up hill you can expect to be below 70 and occasionally changing down to 4th

Stop thinking of your children and have some fun .
200/300tdi's are noisey at speeds in excess of 55mph Td5's are a lot more refined and you can even hold a conversation at speeds over 60!!(this can be an advantage if you don't want to speak to your passenger ) I find them really easy to drive on motorways and I never get back or bum ache when driving mine, I do refurb the seats every couple of years though.

Might just get myself a 90 or S2a 88 as a station car instead, and think of something else for the family car.
