Hi there petrol heads... i want to fit a larger set of wheels to a RR classic project i am working on. I was advised that I could fit hub converters to enable fitment of P38 rims, so off I went and bought a brand new set of 18" mondial rims and 255/55/18 pirelli skorpion tyres and a set of said hub adapters.. at great cost and annoyance to my wife... only to find the hub adapters don't actually fit pre 1990 cars as my car is an 87 and has bigger hubs... yipee... can the hubs be changed to later types? can i fit p38 axles? or is there a wheel manufacturer out there who makes big wheels for the older land rover products? 165 x 5 pcd..

Hmm. Is it that the hub is too big, or is it the half-shaft ends? Someone on here will know. How much too big are the hubs (or whatever?) Could you do a bit of deft grinding?

P38 axles would be hard to fit, because the rear axle uses a completely different mounting system.

Roland.

ps, there are some 18 inch versions of the deep-dish / boost (slightly different designs) alloys, made by bearmach or someone. I'll do some investigating.

The diffs are in the wrong position to change the axles.

Probably a good move would be to fit 300 Discovery axles, they are a straight fit and give you fine spline halfshafts which are stronger. You should be able to get a pair for around £200.

Thanks for the response, It seems the disco 300 axles are the way to go then. might be best to look for a complete car for bits.. Bearmach wheels might be an option too and sell the others i have.decisions decisions...
