4x4 Environmental Tax
Discussion
Sorry if this has been done before, but I wondered if you guys were concerned by the seemingly inevitable taxation assault on the 4x4?
I don't want to debate the politics but, personally, I believe its inevitable. Surely this will cost us all a great deal more in the terms of road tax and residuals?
Should I be abandoning my plans for a Disco and looking at Merc/Volvo Estates?

I wouldn't be too concerned.
According to the data that was being banded around, 4x4's would get the biggest hike (£1800) but even 2.0 Mondeo's would increase to £1500!...
In any event, tax will rise on all vehicles, and personally I don't mind spending the extra for the priviledge of driving my Rangie

I think you will find that road tax will only go to what the govt. think people will pay. If it goes to £1800 or whatever then people won't tax their cars so they will lose any extra revenue they may expect to gain.
If truth be known they are not interested in the green issue, just how much revenue they can raise.
