One of the manifolds is blowing on my '94 Vogue LSE 4.2 V8, and I'd like to take the opportunity to fit a complete stainless sports system

I've been looking at the Rimmer Bros system which does without the cats, which I believe I'm allowed to do on this year of vehicle.

Has any experience of this system? I'm interested in how it sounds, how easy it is to fit and whether there are any better alternatives out there.

'93 K reg onwards will need cats for the MOT. You might be lucky and have an extremely clean engine that can pass the emissions test without cats, but you'll be in an exclusive club.....

Rimmer Bros say this:

Rimmer Bros said:
Our sports system could be used to replace the catalyst exhaust system on UK cars registered prior to August 1995 (subject to any change of legislation, please enquire.)
Current MOT emissions limits could allow not cat equipped vehicles to pass an MOT (providing the engine is set up and tuned correctly) up to this registration date. Please specify when ordering as manifolds with lamda sensor holes will be required. (Our system part number carries a 'WS' suffix)
Has anyone managed to get a non-cat equiped V8 from around '94 to pass an MOT?

Do you have any details of SC - done a google search but can't find anything.

Also, in what way was it better than the Rimmer system? I've got no experience with any of these systems, so no idea what is good or not.

Ta!

I had a SS system on a V8 90 after the original mild steel one died. They are similar to Rimmer and I think Janspeed make one as well.

Firstly let me say they're not bad, sound reasonable and make a little difference to performance. They are an absolute biatch to fit. Mine was done by my indy and he cursed my name when I asked him to do it. Although made for the car there is a significant amount of extra bending to do to make them fit and I never did like the manifold proximity to the brake pipe union on the offside front chassis. They cost around £400 to buy and then about 5 hours to fit so your looking at around £600 - £700 fitted. Please note that prices were for a non cat system as my 90 was of 1985 vintage.

A specialist fabricater will make and fit a much better system. They will understand gasses etc so will get you more horse power and they will sound infinitely better than an off the shelf system like Rimmer. price should be similar but you will be getting so much more.

Powerspeed near Ashford in Kent are excellent and not to far from London.
