Hi,

For a while now I've been reading these forums trying to gather information on the P38 RR inparticular. Although I've found some useful information I'm still uncertain about some of the basics;

1. What are servicing costs like? I live in South East nr. Bracknell, are there any well known independents? What are the service intervals?
2. I've read about some of the potential problems, much the same as any car tbh, but what preventative measures can you take to avoid problems?
3. If I go looking at various cars, what makes a good one stand out? What sort of things should I take note of?
4. My budget is between £5-7K, and I've noticed a few examples with around 80-100K miles, what sort of mileage is expected from these? Is there a point where it's a false economy (is there a sweet spot in terms of mileage that is worth paying extra for?)

Any nuggets of advise are most welcome.

Thanks

Julian

I would put your budget a little higher,A lot of crap around for that kind of money and generally 4 or 5th owner who cant afford to run one,so lots of problems could be had.Check to see if the car had a new engine fitted.If so and the car is what you want then get it re-mapped,because its the mapping that caused so many porous blocks on RR,s.Make sure EAS rises and lowers as it should when the button on the dash is operated,and also while sitting in the car with the handbrake on see if the car sits level,if not then there could be problems,which could be anything from airspring to a valve block.Also check the footwell near the gearbox tunnel,if damp and signs of coolant then this could be signs of 0 ring failure and can be an expensive job if taken to a main dealer,but some independants can do it without the need to remove the dashboard.Check that all the door locks open and shut as they should.Failures on these could be a door lock station which are about £100.I have my car serviced every year by an independant,and depending on service i.e big or small ranges from £250-£450.

My basic annual service tends to be in the region of £350-400
