Right. Here omes the age old question. I wish to do some offroading at Tixover etc and some Trialling. Obviously a 90 would be better for trialling but a Disco would be more comfy for getting places (Tixover being my nearest off-road centre, and still being 30 miles), especially as I'm 6'4" tall! Will a Disco with removed valances and trimmed bumper end caps be OK for trialling, and can you do anything with the exhaust so it's not so vulnerable at the rear end where to tail pipe is? I am tending towards a Disco for comfort reasons and cost - for my £2-3k budget there are lots more Discos than 90s. Any advice? Ta.

I'd go for the Disco. It'll be more likely to have been cared for, it'll be cheaper for equivalent age etc, it'll be better on road and you're unlikely to notice any difference in off-road capability.

I was hoping for that kind of response. I've got a really nice Disco and a reasonable 1972 Series 3 at the moment and the difference on road is massive. I like the way the Disco feels on road and have had it off-road but with normal road tyres. I was talking to a guy last night who's modified the tail pipe to come out of the rear wing. A Disco seems to be the way to go!

That'll be the coil springs and more than twice the power!! TBH if I had that combo already I'd be tempted to tow the series to the off-road play park and use that.

That's a temptation also, but the cost of a decent trailer is probably more than the S111's worth, and they take up a lot of room! The S111 does seem pretty invincible off road though!

Here

It tows beautifully. All i did was weld pivots onto the bumper of my trialler, then it simply hooks to whatever.

Cool.
I'd never thought of that!!!
Don't tell the missus though - I've almost convinced her that I NEED to sell the Series and buy something better!!!

Having looked at your profile you're probably a bit younger than me and not bothered about being thrown around in a rattly Series. I'm nearly 40 now and getting a bit too lardy to deal with all this heavy non-power steering stuff!!! I think I've been spoilt with a relatively comfy Disco.
