ALL-NEW TDV8 DIESEL ENGINE BOOSTS PERFORMANCE & IMPROVES REFINEMENT
The Range Rover's new TDV8 diesel engine builds on learning from the widely acclaimed TDV6, used in the Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport. Delivering substantial improvements in both performance and refinement, its maximum power is increased by more than 50 per cent, at 272 bhp/PS (200 kW), compared with the outgoing straight-six diesel's 177 bhp/PS (130 kW).
Maximum torque is an enormous 640 Nm (472 lb ft). This is maintained constantly from 2000 rpm to 2500 rpm, delivering effortless performance even at low engine speeds. Over 400 Nm of torque is available from just 1250 rpm – greater than the previous engine's maximum torque of 390 Nm (288 lb ft).
Acceleration is similarly transformed, with the 0-60 mph time down to 8.5 sec from 12.7 sec (0-100 km/h now 9.2 sec, from 13.6 sec). The improvements continue right across the speed range. In the crucial 50-70 mph acceleration range (80-110 km/h), for example, the new diesel model is about 40 per cent faster. Top speed is an electronically limited 124 mph (200 km/h), up from 111 mph (179 km/h).

There is an article in this months LRO magazine. It was undergoing cold weather testing on a frozen lake in Finland. Supposed to be a bit good.
They did the elk test which the merc A class initially failed. The RR was doing a ton when the driver flicked the wheel. Apparently all it did was change direction. No hint of an impending roll. Thats gonna screw up Fifth Gears programme planning.

ACE is absolutely brilliant but not much else about the Disco is.......compared to the Range Rover. You get what you pay for I guess.
But really, what is the point of a V8 diesel. I suspect fuel consumption will be about the same as petrol, servicing costs significantly higher, cambelts to change and more expensive fuel and of course no gorgeous V8 engine burble, just a clattery old oil burner.
It never ceases to amaze me why people prefer diesel over petrol in big 4 x 4's for reasons of economy

so will this model be about the same economy as the TD6?, i have to say with that been released there seems very little point in getting a petrol version for its performance advantage unless you were buying the supercharged version of course, will earlier TD6 and V8s start to plummet even more price wise though?

At Gaydon there's a Rover V8 engine converted for diesel and turboed .. about 30 years ago
Project Iceberg. Canned because Land ROver was proping up the rest of British Leyland.
In colaboration with Perkins, iirc. I think they has problems with splits in the block.
My 4.4 Vogue does about 18MPG, with fuel at 93p/ltr. Compare that with the V8D at 25MPG (factory figures, so I expect it to be nearer 22MPG) with deisel at 105p/ltr their really is nothing in it??? I prefer the smoothness of the petrol and will be interested to see what this engine will be like in the RR as the ole TD6 was bloody awful.
