In the process of looking at (from a 600+ mile distance) a 69 SWB Landy. A bit tatty but MoT'd etc. Seems 4th gear is hard to get in. Owner suggests the gear linkage is seizing through lack of use. Any thoughts?
Also anyone any ideas of the approx weight of one of these wee beasties,(petrol), do I drive it home or bring it back on my 2 wheeled transporter behind the old Volvo? Transporter was built to carry a rallycross special, on a caravan chassis. Carries a mini easily and reputedly has carried a cavalier (?!?)

Is the clutch disengaging properly? These boxes have syncro on 3rd and top. The linkage for third is the same one as for fourth, so it third works, so should top.

By all means drive it home, if it doesnt look massively pull-overable.

They arent really that heavy though, and FYI, the petrols weigh no more than the diesels.

Cheers
Roland

Thanks BS
IF I buy it, and haven't agreed yet, it's the logistics of getting from the Isle of Skye to London (plane or train or bus or combination) and driving the old girl home (at 50mph) or taking the Volvo down with the trailer and bringing back at 50mph (worried about the trailer and the weight, but comfortable). Strange thing about the gear selection though. Vehicle was cold and hadn't been driven for a while apparently, according to "my man in the City"

At a guess 1.5 tons.

Just a thought, and none of my business, is it worth picking up over that distance? Couldn't you get one near home for next to nothing?

What volvo is it? Our 850 2.5 pulls my short wheelbases on a trailer reasonably well, although this is a proper trailer, not a dolly sort of thing.

(the 109 six pot takes a little more though!)

Is it really worth travelling the distance in the first place? Surely you can find something a bit closer to home?

Just seems like a reasonable old Landy at a reasonably cheap price, they are at a bit of a premium up here also. But I know what you mean.
Does £200 for a bit tatty free road tax vehicle with an Mot seem reasonable? Been back on ebay and they seem to fetch around that sum or a little more?

I have just driven my 1961 Ser II to work today on motorways and very fast roads. amd at 45 it can be quite scary with Lorries swerving round you.

Love it on normal roads but after that many miles at 45 I would go crazy.
Stick it on a trailer

Anybody after a seriously low mileage Ser II bit tatty but very original MOT and always runs like a dream??

45? You must be doing something wrong. My series 2 2 1/4 petrol will crack 75 on the motorway (if your nerves will stand it )
