thanks, i still think thier great just have seen some been driven around in some sorry states and felt bad for the poor things, as much as i like them i think i would still go for the P38 now, it been slightly more modern and also very good value, failing that, i woudnt say no to a decent Defender either.

TBH, I think the P38 has more of a chav image!!! (and I drive one). There's a lot about with blacked out windows (ahem) and big alloys. They're now becoming cheap as the classic as well.

That said - still a cracking car in every way!

No RR could ever be described as chav or any landrover product come to think of it.

i dont think having privacy glass cold be counted as chav, however Kahn aloys and 4 exhausts out of the back of a DSE would be though,i really like the classic but i wouldnt buy one because its too old to use reliably every day, really i want a L322 but am unsure about getting into that much debt at the moment.

Some of them can be a bit bling, but a RR is never Chav. That's the X5

Given that it's pretty easy and cheap to replace most of the parts on them (classic and P38)I wouldn't think that a well sorted classic would be much less reliable than a P38, although I guess there are less decent ones around these days.

I did initially think that way, and was saving for a later P38, but decided to go for a cheaper classic in the meantime and I'm glad I did. It's got more character than the P38, and is a bit more rugged/rough round the edges, so I'd be less keen to chuck a load of rubbish in the back of a nice P38 to take to the tip than I am with the classic.

sorry to go off topic a little here but thats a gorgeous Tuscan S youve got there Ed the mk1 in black looks amazing, far better than the mk2 in my opinion.

to tell the truth i want to get an RR soon, i like the L322 i have acess to but i cant afford one at the moment, i want to do a fair bit of off roading and greenlaning in it and will probably go for a diesel because of the more proven engine and cheaper running costs, unless i find a decent one with a LPG conversion as my heart would make me buy the V8.

The only thng which would put me off laning a newer landie is the hit on the residuals. Not so bad on a Defender, but scratches all over a new RR anint gonna be good if you have to sell it because its a dog.

I have no problems banging my classic because it'll only cost me a grand or so if I throw it away.

Oh and I use my classic as my daily driver.

I find that its a bit like driving over a steep precipice. Once you've got a scratch and accepted it, there's no looking back - you start to realise that you can actually use the car to its full potential rather than tread meekly all the time. I used to touch up scratches on my P38, but its got a couple of deep ones to the alloy now. And I still haven't fixed that crumpled exhaust pipe from offroading last year

in all honesty if i buy a P38 i have every intention of taking it off road properly, if i need to get some bits re sprayed down the line then i will have to get it done, i will probably leave if covered in mud most of the time anyway, i would like to take the latest shape one off road as from what i hear thier very very capable but sadly im not a millionaire!!!!!.
