Chips to boost economy for V8

Hi all, new to this section of PH and wondering if you can offer advices on chips which boost economy? There was a V8 advertised on PH a while ago which had been chipped and was returning circa 28mpg. Is this plausible? Does anyone know the name of the manufacturer/distributor?

I currently have a '93 153k TDi and am looking to trade-up.

If this question is asked a lot and there is a classic thread on the subject, please would you point me in that direction.

4L+ engine in a car weighing over 2 tons with the aero of a brick - 28MPG - Go figure.

My BMW 540 (4.4L, 1800 kilos, better aero) returns 18 around town, low 20's on a run.

You dont need to make it more economical, you just need to make what it does use cheaper.

LPG anyone?
