Anyone had to replace the starter motor yet? Just been told that mine is shot, pinion is spinning freely.

Also have a drain on the battery which can't be found!

Do you have a petrol or diesel?
Have you taken it off road/deep water?
This is interesting to me as I work for Landrover in power supply dept that covers starter motors.
This is a Bosch part that its supplied from BMW along with the engine.
(Edit to add) is it a P38A or L322 Range rover?
As the P38A petrol is the rover lump I sill think its A bosch starter motor (will check it out)

If its a P38, has anybody near you got a weather station or remote door bell etc ? My Rangie had the same problem, dealer said new BECM would cure it, £1000 !!! Did a little research and its common, just take the aerial off the blipper reciever, drivers side rear window.

TD6 L322 range Rover. And never been wet.

Regarding the starter ,what is also ridiculous is that it's the one way roller bearing that are shot. Another example of a 50p item that is going to cost about £250 to replace.

The garage have also noticed that the lights around the auto selector remain lit, and believe this may the the battery drain. RR said replace the Gearbox ECU !

On a BMW, the light on the autobox lever indicates that the ecu is "awake" - it's supposed to go out after a period of time once the car is all locked up - sort of goes into suspend mode. If it stays on, it drains the battery.

Cars back. New starter spins about twice the speed of the old. Light on gearbox stays on, but also does the same on my seven series??

Started today, so hopefully will start toimororw and I can stop worrying.
