Greenlaning/off-road courses in S/E?
Discussion
Does anyone here know of any greenlane routes or off-road venues that would be suited to a beginner? I want to get my wheels muddy and find out what my new Rangie can do without needing full-on off-road equipment like mud tyres, winches or snorkels.
I've already found www.devilspit.com but can't make most of the dates that they're open, and was wondering if there's anywhere similar within an hour or two of N/E London.

It depends whether you are interested in getting your wheels muddy or want to "put something back" too.
Pay and play sites or a training centre are the best places to learn what your vehicle can do and have a play. Green lanes are also a good place to learn but please do not use them to "play" in the romping through mud sense.
Best thing to do is to either join the Green Lane Association or a local Land Rover club, the local members will steer you in the right direction.
good luck!

These are quite good. The Grand Canyon is good for newer vehicles as there aren't many trees to do any damage on, although the chalk takes some washing off. Here's a few pics from last time I was playing I really like Slindon but again there's loads of trees and the sand eats brakes etc. You need mud tyres to get to most places except for in the summer when it's a bit drier.
Bures near Colchester is another nice open one with some good hills to get used to if those are too far away.
Woodlands is good but I wouldn't say ideal for someone new to off roading - there's lots of trees and big mud holes, you'll only end up driving around the main tracks which aren't all that interesting IMHO. Good for playing once you've got mud tyres etc. and don't mind a bit of body damage.
