Having just filled up my chipped disco 3 TDV6 SE next to a rangerover sport, I though yes bought the right car when I watched the rear pasengers shoulder to shoulder, bags stacked up to the roof. Disco 3 has plenty of room in the cab with the rear 6th and 7th seats folded flat into the floor.

As we drove off and I sped past with my motor over fuelling....but passing him for dead! I noticed the twin chrome pipes poking out of the rear bumper making the sport look well... sporty (for a 4wd very rare), I could do with some of those for mine!

Does anyone know of a tailpipe conversion for the discovery 3?

Oooh no thanks I think the Sport looks far too fussy for me. Stick with what you've got. I prefer the understated look as I clear off over the horizon in a cloud of smoke.

I see from your profile that you've gone from X5s to a Disco3. If you don't mind me asking, how do they compare?

Hi Grame,

Well kind of. I've still got an X5 4.8 as my daily driver. The Discovery is for my wife. I love the X5's, especially the 4.8. They go and handle extremely well. They are a little tight for space in the back to be honest (I have three young children)and the boot is on the small side. I still think it is the best looking SUV.

However, if I had to decide on one of them, much as I love the X5, it would have to be the Discovery. It just does most things so well. Granted, it's no hot rod. If you go the diesel route like me, then a chip upgrade is probably a must. Without, the performance is almost dangerous. With it, it's actually quite quick actually. The interior is a bit more utilitarian than the X5 but the seven seat option is brilliant for us.

It does have some nice touches. The sat nav is better than the X5's which is getting a bit long in the tooth, and it is brillaint off road. In HSE form and £44K ish it has every option I could want, and I think it is great value for money. In fact, it has things that I had to pay extra for on a £64K X5.

So to summarise, if you want a sporty 4x4 then the X5 is the best on the market IMO. However, if you need to go off road or need a bit more room, the Discovery is a great bit of kit. I wouldn't be put off by tales of reliability with the Discovery. I've had a few problems but no more than the X5. I wouldn't want either out of warranty to be fair. Hope that helps.
