Does anyone on here know anything about rollcages ?

I own a 90 pickup with a cage in the bed, (thick hoop follows the shape of the back of the cab, and angled bar across the back window and 2 angled bars to the rear of the bed from the top corners of the cage).

I bought the 90 with this already installed. The cage is only bolted through the floor of the pickup bed (4 bolts through each of the cage feet, which are about 4 x 3 inches in size).

My question is, should I really find some way of bolting the cage to some custom brackets welded to the rear chassis rails, as I imagine in the event of a roll the cage will simply tear the floor of the bed out (which is only riveted in) ?

Any ideas on how to go about attaching to the chassis or is this a bad idea ?

Thanks

If you remember the series with Mark Evans (A 4 x 4 is Born) he built a 100 inch pick up and put a roll bar in. He fabricated it on-site and had it welded together and he certainly welded the whole thing to the chassis rails. The DVD is available from ebay and well worth a look.

Alternatively by Land Rover International and there are loads of ads for roll cages. Call one of those boys and see what the have off the shelf.

If the cage is bolted to the floor then it is just for show!!! It needs to be firmly secured to the chassis. My cage on my 90 is 5mm thick and mounts to the chassis in 6 places.

heres a pic of my cage

Michael,

Yours looks great ! Cage is similar to mine, however mine has no bars over the cab or down the A pillars.

Do you have any pics of the cage to chassis attachment ? Also what size wheels / tyres are you running ? what type of tyres ?

Thanks

Not sure whether you've seen this, but there's some good pictures on here of your truck with one of it's previous owners!

Agreed mate, why do you think I sold them! I had 37" boggers on an old 90 hybrid, I put them on and couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding before they let go. I changed to early 110 CVs and big shafts and I never broke a thing whilst giving it some beans.
