I'm looking for a roof rack for my Defender 90. I'm told that Patriot make the best and toughest, but they are a bit pricey. I don't intend to pitch a tent on it, but do want something that I can stand on - seems the Land Rover roof rack has a weight limit of 75kgs so is no good!

Anybody had experience with Patriot (good or bad) or can you suggest any suitable alternatives ?

Thanks

GB

I had a Land Rover rack on my last 90 and it could take well in excess of 75kg if you wanted. I wouldn't advise it though, as it affects stability and in particular it significantly reduces the maximum side slope angle negotiable off-road. These are the reasons LR quote 75kg, it's not to do with the build quality of the rack itself.

Thanks for the info. I am not intending to carry load off-road. My primary purpose is to be able to stand on it with tripod and photographic gear as it will be useful to gain height and a relatively stable platform in certain locations, hence it must be able to take my weight (80kgs) + kit.

That would certainly be fine on the LR rack, I used to carry a couple of those fibreglass waffles to floor it and two of us regulary used to sit/stand/lie on it:-)
